Summer 2010
So summer is upon us and St. Nicholas has been experiencing
the transition home for those who spend their winters in
warmer climates and those who are with us in the cooler
months, but who head off to the cottage for the summer.
Although, things naturally slow in the summer we have been
keeping pretty busy here at St. Nicholas. June saw a large
tri-celebration of Sunday School Closing, double baptism,
and anniversary celebration. We also praised the
achievement of ten of our young people who were confirmed
the end of June.
It has been recognized that it is important to have some
special focal points this summer to both make our presence
known in the community, to honour those faithful folks who
are with us all year and to celebrate those who are only
with us for the summer.
With these objectives in mind some events have been planned
for the summer. We co-ordinated and operated an ice cream
stand at Bay Days on July 3rd at the Head of St.
Margaret’s Bay Fire Department and sports field.
Although the numbers were down from other years everyone
who came seemed to really enjoy themselves. And everyone
involved in our ice cream stand had fun and felt that we
had made ourselves a positive and visible presence in the
community. We are planning to have a takeout dinner later
in the summer as well as a parish picnic which will give us
time as a community to play and fellowship together.
Although schedules may be come relaxed and perhaps
unpredictable in the summer, try to stay connected
spiritually this summer. Perhaps that means reflecting on
all God has done for you while you rest on the beach
somewhere, perhaps it simply means finding sometime to slow
down to consider how God is working in your life and where
and what God might like to be doing in your life. Take time
to stop and smell the roses as they say! And plan when you
can to drop in on your St. Nicholas family this summer!
Blessings
